  • Motion Dependence?

Congrats on the work you are doing. It is very hard to comprehend sometimes, but I feel it is almost prying at my mind, which I think is probably important. On the motion dependent effect, I think I am getting it. Would it be that I should try to get the racket up to the trophy position and then relax it so these other forces you talk about would somehow take over then?
I think I am getting more speed on the ball doing this.

    dh-

Many coaches for as long as I can remember have advocated a "loose" arm - some reseachers have found that the backswing motion is driven by forces other than active muscle contraction and put forth reasons this could be beneficial - so the idea of keeping the arm relaxed in the back swing is probably a good one. The purpose in my description was to begin to understand more about the origins of the driving force so players and coaches can formulate specific motion pattern strategies to get the most benefit from the force - that is where much work is left to do, and where it gets complicated - sorry - Brian
