  • Don't Question Rublev's Passion

Say what you will about Andrey Rublev, but don't question his passion. Check out what's left of his knuckles after blowing a break point at Indian Wells vs Fritz, I think it was. Dude plays hard.

From January's Tour Portrait for TPN on the second best player with no flag. All photos from BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells, by me (c)jfawcette

I admit I once referred to Rublev as a forehand with a mop of red hair.

But what a forehand! Advocates of the straight arm should be pleased. Those of keeping one's eye on the ball, less so perhaps

P.S. Compare this to Alcaraz's forehand in my TPN portrait of the Spaniard. 10th image or so.

As for my quip about the "Second best player with no flag', this social media post by Rublev amuses.

Each player's personality captured in an expression.

Andrey Rublev meets Dominic Thiem in the first round of the US Open.

As mucha as I like Rublev, I really wish Thiem gets back his great form and challenges at majors again.

Yes, what a 1st round match up. Tough out there. I would put Nadal only a slight favorite over Draper. Very tough match up for Nadal, and Draper.

Passion? Beats Rune 11-9 in the fifth set.

            6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(11)

Out in straights to Djoko. Serve neutralized and Novak went right at Rublev's forehand.

Big Red has no Plan B, so that's all she wrote. But a good run, nonetheless.
