  • Kovacs video on type of forehand backswing

What do you guys think of this video? Do you agree with what Kovacs states on the size of the backswing? He doesnt mention anything about the type 3 fh? Just seems to be comparing type 1 and type 2. So if we have more time a type 2 fh is great? From what I see in this site the type 3 is always an advantage in terms of heaviness of ball(greater spin). Right? So should it always be the best model to teach a young competitor?
Do you have a big or small backswing on your forehand? Do you know which is better for your gamestyle and body type? This video will provide you with the answer.

    Thank you

Agree that Dr. Kovacs seems to be talking about type 1 and 2 in his explanation. If I'm teaching a new/young player who has long term/competitive goals, I'm introducing an ATP, and hopefully Type 3 FH and see how it progresses. Having different size swings depending on surface and time is not for me.

No doubt the type 3 backswing is an ideal. But there are plenty of men and especially women who have won Slams with larger ones. To me the full turn and the full extension of the swing are more important fundamentals especially below the pro level where they are almost always lacking.

Think Dr Kovacs is talking about functional oriented backswings, the vast majority of backswings, in which case what he says is clearly true. But the ATP III does not have a functional oriented backswing.
