Always the underdog. I wonder if that not might help more people on the court. Thinking the others are better so the only thing I can do is practice so that in a match I can use my effort (controllable) to overcome their talent (not controllable).

Never gives his rivals some guarantee that will fire them up. He then fires himself up so that he has a fighting chance (in his mind).

He is a smart competitor.

I have never understood why so many pundits label Novak as the game's most complete player. He really isn't. Roger most definitely is. Roger strokes would make a perfect examples on every chapter and page of a coaching textbook.

Novak cannot volley or smash and is sliced backhand isn't all that either. Novak has weaknesses. The problem is his core game is so incredibly good no one can get to those weaknesses on a sustained basis - not even Roger, with the finest arsenal in the history of tennis. Novak is mindboggling good at what he does...but complete he ain't.
