Who You Lookin' At?
Your tour portrait this month features Elise Mertens. While Mertens has been a top 20 WTA singles player for years, her biggest success has come in doubles where she reached the number one ranking earlier this year after winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon with different partners. Back in 2019, she also won the US Open doubles title. Great speed and, unusual in WTA singles, she is comfortable at the net. Deceptive serve, can hit high teens.

I like the way in this image, Elise seems to be looking right at me, mid-point, sort of like "What are you doing? Did you get me in focus?". Everyone's a critic.
Images from several events, all copyright jfawcette.
P.S. Given Dr. Paul Hamori's article on high speed ball impact, I included one from a few years back that shows only the front third of the ball peaking out from Mertens' racket on a serve. Thought he might appreciate it https://www.tennisplayer.net/bulleti...849-paulhamori
