Just watched young 20 year old American Jenson Brooksby take out Kevin Anderson in 1st round. Brooksby caught my eye as he is a hard hat player to me, more in line with the Spanish players as he treats unforced errors as extremely distasteful. He certainly does not have the effortless pop on his shots as someone like Sinner, but he looks to me to be a player that is very interested in realizing his full potential and is up for the fight out there.

I really like his work ethic but that serve ain't pretty. I bet he serves very few aces...if any.

Great Seano, great to have a member with eyes on this live. I concur Stotty, his serve, like the rest of his game is not easy on the eye, no one is going to be quantitatively studying it or anything else about his game. He just works, hard hat tennis.

The draw looks pretty good here. Nadal #1 seed. It looks like Norrie his main threat in his quarter. Grigor #4 seed in his quarter. Also in that quarter are Nick, Fritz, and Evans. The Demon #3 seed in his quarter, which has Sinner, Korda, and Ruusuvuori. FAA #2 seed in his quarter, with Opelka and maybe Tiafoe as main threats there.

Taylor Fritz...one of your faves just had his ass handed to him by world number 103, Denis Kudla. Next up for Kudla is Brandon Nakashima with two extraordinary impressive wins under his belt this week after a great run to the finals last week in Atlanta. Nakashima currently ranked #89 but his stock seems to be rising. I used to love the old Washington Star played on HarTru. Those were the days.

That would have been Mackenzie McDonald. Ranked #107...Mackenzie in prime position to take down a couple more big names in the next couple of rounds. This kid has got a little somethin/somethin. Hmmm...

Brandon like Ruusuvuori looking to be moving up in rankings very quickly, no doubt. Kudla just took it to Taylor, who was never really in the match. All credit to Kudla.

Sock really played well in losing a very close match to Nadal. His forehand was huge, every bit the equal of Nadal's. A very tough loss for Sock, but Nadal is such a tough out as all know obviously. Grigor goes out in 1st round in 2 sets. Sinner gets back on track vs Ruusuvuori, winning in a routine 2 sets. Keep an eye on Opelka. He could be a real threat here.

Sinner takes 1st set vs Korda winning 1st set tiebreaker. I certainly get the vibe I am watching the future of tennis with these 2. Their games are very similar. I could see either of them winning this tournament.

That was an interesting match up. Korda the more talented of the two but Sinner is the better match player....a tough cookie who is going nowhere for 3 hours or however long it takes. Sinner is moves so well. Not too keen or clever at the net, though. Korda fell away in the at second set. You fear he maybe a wet lettuce when it comes to the nitty gritty but it's too early to make a a judgement at this point in his career. The next two years will be revealing for those two. At the moment, I favour Sinner to be the more successful.

Brooksby leads one set to love...

You'd like to think FAA would have a bit too much class for Brooksby, but Brooksby is proving a stubborn opponent.

FAA was dismal and looked positively slow and out of ideas at times. FAA has not improved much in the last two years....roughly about the same.

What a win by JB. He does not like ue's. What really catches my eye about him is his fighting spirit and his Fabrice Santoro like 2 handed slice backhand.
