These are a few notes on this month's TPN Tour Portrait on Dominic Thiem.

Most of these photos came from last year's Indian Wells final where Thiem topped Fed in a tight, high-quality back-and-forth match. There were a couple of shots that were among the best I've ever seen in person. Here's the story on this back hand. Since Domi had moved further and further back to return serve, Fed tried to serve-and-volley behind a heavy kick, second serve. Thiem hit this sharply-angled backhand, topspin pass from behind the logo (it felt at the time as if he was in the ESPN camera cutout). Passed Fed with a short dipper so hard Fed didn't even move for it.
