  • Two-Handed Backhands TPN Tour Portrait

For TPN's July Tour Portrait I tried to round up more than the usual suspects (although we've got Rafa, Novak and Andy). So I dusted off some old bytes on the hard drive. You'll also find Nalbandian (Fed's nemesis before Rafa mainly because of his great backhand), Benneteau, Monfils and "Crazy Ernie" Gulbis, who had (has?) one of the best backhands ever.

One item that stands out is the number of split grips. In particular, it looks as if Kei Nishikori changes his grip a good deal depending on the type of shot. Here, Kei's getting on top of heavy spin from Rafa. Bottom finger on his right hand is below the grip, while left hand is on the throat above the grip. You'll see neither is true in other photos of him in the Tour Portrait

    Enjoy / jim
