I like this one best: “If you play like you’re broke and hungry, you’ll never be either.” – Mardy Fish’s dad’s advice to his son

“The best advice I ever got is don’t be afraid of the ball.” – Roger Federer

This quote sounds simple but it's very powerful on the court. :-)

I remember a story that Chuck Kriese, former coach at Clemson, told about "the black door" and "overcoming your fears". A general has a captured spy in front of a firing squad. Gives the spy a choice, death by the firing squad or what's behind the "black door". The spy starts to imagine all these terrible ways to die, chooses the firing squad. Later, a lieutenant asked the general, what's behind the "black door"? He says "freedom" but I've yet to have anyone take that option.

The key phrase to remember is "people would prefer a death they are comfortable with, rather than experience the unknown".

It may be a bad backhand but it's my backhand.
