Just over halfway through part one...excellent discussion. Would have loved to have been involved in that one. Ivan Lendl really stepped up in the conversation and it will be interesting to see how it plays out for the remainder. Ivan is telling it like it is so far whereas the other three still have vested interest in the game in their professions so they seem to be a bit more on their guard. Boris shows signs of wanting to tell it like it is but backs off just a bit.

Yeah...this is really good stuff seano. Towards the end Wilander starts a thread discussing the rivalry of Lendl and McEnroe. Very, very revealing although they downplayed the racquet switch of McEnroe in the changing of the tone of the matches. McEnroe won the first two then Lendl won the next seven. At which point DON BUDGE pulled McEnroe aside and advised him to approach Lendl up the middle to take away the angle. Worked like a charm as McEnroe came back to take the next eight of nine. Just great, great conversation between the champions. But there is a bit of disconnect between Wilander and Becker as these two came after the racquet switch. As a matter of fact I remember Wilander being one of the first to go oversize.

Very interesting how Lendl remembered everything from matches almost 30 years ago, very competitive and could care less what others thought of him.

I finished watching part one and came away that Ivan Lendl validates my opinion of him. One of the all-time greats of any era. What a stud! When I think of Lendl I think of him as a big time stud. He was so tough and mentally just a rock. In the video he says that if the crowd was pulling for him he would play harder but if they were pulling against him he played even harder. The mindset is just so tough. When asked about what people thought of him...was he too dour? Was he this or that? His answer...is correctly...he didn't care. His own opinion of himself was way more important than what others thought of him. I spoke to Magnus Gustafsson here in Sweden...a former #6 in the world...and he just validated how tough Lendl was.

Interestingly...Ivan Lendl actually comes across as the most thoughtful and analytical of the four. I almost got the feeling that Mats, John and Boris were a bit intimidated by him. Very, very interesting video. Now for part two!

Oh my God...part two. Just fucking hilarious. McEnroe kicks it up a notch and Lendl matches him story for story. Lendl shines in a light that I have never seen him in. Really funny guy. Really funny. He didn't back down at any point and McEnroe was zinging him with darts and daggers. Mats and Boris great accompaniment. Those four belong on a golf course somewhere...they were discussing golf at the end. Thanks for these seano. One needs a good laugh in times like these!!!

I encountered Ivan's sense of humor back in 1984 when we filmed Winning Edge with him and Mac. After we were done he acted like he was inviting me to his house in Connecticut. I was taken a back a little but flattered. Then he said: "We need a new goalie for our street hockey team--last one has no teeth."

seano...what made you think of me? Thanks. Big thanks. Absolutely made my day listening to these players from the past discussing the game today and insight to the past. Some of the anecdotes that they traded about the game within the game that they were playing with each other were just priceless. Stay safe Brother.

These two videos were every bit as good as the "Seinfeld" reruns that I watch daily for a good laugh.

How about a gratis posting of that film johnyandell..."WINNING EDGE". Lord we need that now! Ivan Lendl and John McEnroe...the two Titans who stood across the chasm between classic and modern tennis. You were there on the spot catching than moment in time. Both winning on both sides of the paradigm. How about it John? Pretty please!

Ahhhh...so it is. Beautiful stuff btw. 1984...what a time to pick to make "Winning Edge". Connecting the dots. seano's posting of the "Four Musketeers" discussing classic and modern tennis. Lendl and McEnroe being the bridge. Your work of art starring those two in "Winning Edge" in 1984. George Orwell's book. 1984 was the year that all four men played with oversized frames in the semifinal's of a Grand Slam event. The corona virus. It is all beginning to become clear. It's a sign.
