  • Sampras Serve in High Speed

    What do you guys think??

His leg extension to hip rotation to shoulder rotation sequence is so smooth! I would suspect that any injuries incurred due to his serve were minmal even though had he had tremendous spin and velocity. His superior speed to spin ratio( indicated by your earlier research), may have allowed him to rarely need to exert maximal effort because of the “heavy service bounce” he created.

The single biggest weapon in tennis history. The Sampras serve is timeless. Iconic. Often imitated but never duplicated. The power of his shoulders, mixed with the timing of the leg drive and swing, the unreadable toss and his penchant for his best serves on the biggest point made the shot and the player legendary. Down break point, up set point, 30-all at 4-all in the final set, he delivered, consistently. He knew it, the fans it, and sadly for his opponents, they knew it as well. Nothing they could do to stop it.

I also was interested in the lesson on hip and shoulder rotation. Any thoughts from anyone on what it means to try to do?
