  • Occular dominance

Ocular dominance is the tendency to prefer visual input from one eye to the other. It is somewhat analogous to right or left handedness, however the side of the dominant eye and the dominant hand do not always match.

It has been asserted that cross-dominance (in which the dominant eye is on one side and the dominant hand is on the other) is advantageous in sports requiring side-on stances. Approximately two-thirds of the population is right-eye dominant. I wonder if this is true for tennis, and, if so, Federer has cross-dominance.

    Left Eye Dominant

I am left eye dominant(right hander) and can easily focus on the forehand. However, when I do a full shoulder turn on the backhand, I can't get my left eye on the ball very good right before contact. To get my left eye on the ball, I either need to turn my head forward during the shoulder turn(almost impossible to do), hit with an open stance or hit with two hands which allows the head to face forward prior to contact. Just a theory!!
