Nadal has a pretty big forehand, but he hits it with a little too much top. Verdasco gets just as much top but it's a scarier shot because it goes through the court better. Verdasco's forehand would be nice to see in slo-mo. He'd be what, the 3rd lefty on the site, along with McEnroe and LeConte?

Like I said it all depends on where we film and who plays on the stadium court. In any case it's a few months away at best. Not sure that Fernando has proved himself exactly a model for the ages--or that your claim is even correct about the spin. Personally I see Nadal as a far more promising player. Saw Verdasco play two years ago at the Open and wasn't impressed. That could change though--also saw Roddick play his first open match and wrote he'd never make it with his forehand...Last edited by johnyandell; 03-30-2005, 07:31 PM.

John,
I don't think you were really all that wrong about Roddick. He did end up winning the 2003 U.S. Open, but when I compare videos of Roddick's forehand from the stroke archive, which are fairly recent, to the slo-mo video you have of him, which is from early in his pro career, there's a huge change in his backswing. His current backswing is much tighter and compact, almost Agassi-esque, in comparison to his formerly huge, F. Gonzo-esque backswing. I believe that this change made him a much better/consistent player and major winner. Now if he could only keep those legs a little more stable through the hit.Last edited by lukman41985; 03-31-2005, 12:52 PM.
