We are such a small country, but we have not only Roger but also Stan the man! Roger has the advantage of having Mirka, two twins and a stable home life. Stan has a more turbulent private life. We saw a very emotional Stan.

Their legacy together as Swiss comrades will forever be the semifinal of the year end championships in London a couple of years and then turning around with in a week or two and defeating the French in the Davis Cup.

Long live the Swiss Tennis! This victory by Stan Wawrinka is another feather in the Swiss cap.

Stan has certainly entered a small, elite band of players. Winning grand slams age over 31 is a rarity. He's a strong man with an amazing pair of lungs. You never see him struggling for air or bent over at the haunches.

Another thing Stan has done is shown the way. Beating Djokovic once in a slam could be seen as lucky...a flash in the pan. Doing it twice has seriously dented Djokovic's aura of invincibility. Big hitters like Del Potro and others will now really fancy their chances. That's the way it works. One player shows the way then a group of players develop belief from it. Djokovic has some work to do to repair things from here.

It looks to me as if Djokovic is starting to show a little wear around the edges as well. His "aura of invincibility" has certainly been breached. Stan did sort of "man-handle" the human backboard. After the disgraceful performance by Djokovic in the last set when he called the trainer onto the court in the middle of the match when it was looking like Wawrinka was going to nail it down...I now have three players that will make me happy to see lose. He joins Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams in this regard. That was unforgivable what he did. He breached to me what is fundamentally a part of the game of tennis...thou shall not seek unfair advantage over your opponent. The eleventh commandment.

Stan Wawrinka persevered and sealed the deal and for this we should be eternally grateful. Somehow though he lacks a certain consistency that I regard as a hallmark of a truly great tennis player. That's not to say that he is a flash in the pan either.

Well said dB - but yeah as great as Stan's game and skills are, he still seems to be missing that bit of polish and consistency, like he's just a bit awkward at times.
