  • Forced Error

Thanks you so much John for the GREAT statistics article! Now I understand why TV statistics make no sense. I could never seem to figure out why the winners and errors didn't add up to the total points played and how they didn't really seem to jibe with my feeling of watching the matches.

Crazy that they don't record every point as SOMETHING. Think that'll ever change on TV???

I doubt it. There is no time for anything beyond the skimpiest numbers and replays. I wish they would use that speed info from Shot Spot more--just like with the radar gun--to give a sense of what the weapons of one player are doing to the other and vic versa. Who's on offense and who is neutralizing? We can't get the Tennis Channel in the Bay Area--is the coverage better of their events?

Excellent article John. This was one of teh reasons I wrote 10ace/Stats ( the software is free!). Not only do I record how many WInners, unforced errors and forced errors my player ( or opponent did), I also know how many forehands my player hit, thus putting my players errors in context.... 10 unforced errors from 30 forehands hit is a poor perfromance, while 10 unforeced FH errors out of 150 hit is an excellant perfomance..... these sort of stats are missing from commercial products thats why I wrote 10ace/Stats. ANybody interested in stats should check out www.10ace.com

        Henry,

I definitely want to check it out. I have a Palm phone--will it download into that by any chance?
