  • Open Stance and High Contact Points

    John,
I've been wondering this for a while, but it just came to mind again: how exactly does open stance allow players to better deal with higher balls? Do players hit open stance because the ball is high or do they hit open stance because the ball is coming at them with so much pace and spin that they don't have time to step in, and by the time it gets to them, the ball is high? Do you understand the difference I'm thinking of? Thanks in advance.

No it's because of the height not the time factor. All you have to do to understand it is to try to model the contact points with a neutral stance and an open stance. You'll feel the difference.
