David Bowie died today. Believe me the world over my side of the pond will stand still for the week. The man was an icon over here like you wouldn't believe. He was the "coolest" man on earth:

I named my Siberian Husky after David. Bowie has one blue eye and one brown. My wife just told me this very second. David Bowie was from an era that was cool…in every sense of the world. I hitch hiked to California in 1971 and I swear that I saw him down in Haight Ashbury.

I just found out the news. Front page of my internet search engine. What an Icon! The world lost a great one. Very sad.

        Lazarus

How's this for creativity from a man reaching the end of his life. Stunning...

This thread is not tennis related...and I don't care. David Bowie's talents and accomplishments transcend what we normally come on to discuss, tennis. Thanks Stotty for starting this thread.

Bowie influenced and inspired so many artists and made an indelible impact on music and culture. An incredible person whose talents go beyond singing a few catchy songs. He will be dearly missed. I'm still in shock. I heard he was battling some health issues, but I did not know the specifics or severity or that it was cancer. Thoughts and prayers to his family as well as to the world of music.

I admire that he kept his medical issues and prognosis private. He released a new album just recently.

This may sound strange but I saw him as a role model. People thought he was crazy as a lad insane and didn't understand him or what he was trying to do.

Through persistance he became part of the woodwork--and accepted in the mainstream--he was on Broadway at the end.

Yes that was extraordinary. Few knew of his terminal illness. No one knows yet even what type of cancer he had. Tony Visconti and a handful of others knew the details, but no one else.

Lazarus, it has been revealed, was his passing song...his goodbye. Watch the video, it's amazing.

He is the most talented artist we have ever produced, a quite exceptional man.

Agree. I had no idea of the seriousness of his illness. I commend him for keeping it out of public knowledge

They are saying it was Liver Cancer. He was battling it for 18 months.
