Buddhist impermanence. Look around and everyone you see will be gone in 100 years. Or less. I am swept up in the nostalgia of this series. Gardnar Mulloy's world seems simpler, classier, maybe clearer. I had of course never heard of the greatest coach in the world. It creates a deep desire to have had the privilege to meet him and watch what happened in that golden era at the Biltmore.

That era contained the forgotten stroke: the weaponized slice.
Look at the old video clips, and the faster shots were all back hand volley slices or power high drive volleys. They were hit faster with more rpm than their serves!
Now, especially with Wawrinka against nadal, the back hand slice lays up too much, does not skid, does not jam anyone, but just sits up to be massacred.
So what used to be ones greatest weapon, is now ones biggest weakness against the feared Nadal types. Not one swinging drive volley ammongst the old timers.Last edited by GeoffWilliams; 05-04-2015, 01:35 PM.
