  • Budge v Von Cramm

There is just one more day left to listen to this 45 minute John Peacock play Playing for His Life before it gets removed from the BBC Radio 4 archives. You may have to register a user and password...takes a minute.

The play is about the lead up to their historic Davis Cup match, and the match itself. Talk about pressure...if only Budge had known.

Remember, just hours left to listen. Radio only archive programmes for so long.

Tennis ace Baron Gottfried Von Cramm offends Hitler by refusing to join the Nazi party.

I have the book also. The Radio 4 play compliments the book nicely. You get a real sense of how important that match was for Von Cramm. Had Budge had any idea what Von Cramm was playing for and the pressure he was under, I feel sure Budge would have found a way to discreetly let that rubber go Von Cramms way. Just my hunch...
