Might as well be tennis on some other planet compared to what we see today. We should show this to kids and contrast it with playing 6 hour baseline battles and let them decide which they would like to become. I don't think most kids are even aware anyone ever played like this. I don't buy the argument that it is not possible with today's technology. However, it is true it is not possible without a lot of work developing the skill that is necessary to pull it off enough of the time for it to be effective. If someone has the skill, there is still room for a significant amount of time spent with the s&v strategy, maybe as much as 40% of the time with someone with the athleticism of a Monfils or even a Janowicz, or someone a little shorter with the athleticsm of an NBA point guard like Chris Paul or Steve Nash. But he still would have to put the time in to develop adequate ground stroke skills as well as the s&v skills. That would mean a lot of years in the minor leagues before it all came together. Remember that Rafter was not really successful until his mid-twenties.

I particularly liked the Becker pass in the sequence at 6:46. To me, that is a much better way, if forced to, to handle the lob over your head than the 'tweener. I guess it might not be true for players with two-handed backhands, but definitely for one-handers. Not nearly as dangerous to one' health too!
