  • Dartfish or Silcon Coach?

    John,

I'm about to purchase either Dartfish or Silicon Coach to aid in my teaching and help my students and my question is which one is a better buy? I was wondering if it was possible to do the 4 person comparison via splitscreen and burn that video to a DVD to give to students? Does anyone have experience with both programs? Thanks

I downloaded a 30 day trial version of Dartfish and the support staff was very helpful with questions I had regarding the software. Anyway, the software really is amazing and I'm definitely thinking about purchasing the program. For any coaches that are big on video and comparing it to pros definitely give dartfish a look.

      Jay,

I probably need to take a lesson from you about Dartfish. You're not going to Marco Island by chance?

I wish I was going to Marco Island, I had a chance to download the 30 day trial version of Dartfish which is the basic version of the software and it really is a great program. You can do all sorts of different things with a picture in picture type feature, of course the 4 player splitscreen and burning lessons on DVD's is quite a help for giving information to students so they have a permanent copy.

Even after that great experience what was stopping me however was the pricepoint of Dartfish, I don't want to say the price on the forum of the software, but I'll just say it wasn't a dollar figure I was willing to spend right off the bat on something I've kind of been doing for free for students.

So I searched high and low and came across a post by David Hill on these forums concerning a program called Motion Pro. I checked out the website, sent emails back and forth with David and he answered every conceivable question I had regarding Motion Pro and what it's capable of.

I received Motion Pro and am very happy with the product, it allows me to do a side by side comparison of any of my students and a wide selection of pro players. I can record my voice over live video, stop, rewind, fast forward and provide my students with an in depth comparison of their stroke and a player with a similar grip or swing style.

One of the nicest features is being able to take a player like Henin Hardenne and flip her to make her a lefty so I can compare her with some of my left handed female junior players. I'm sure they will get a kick out of Justine as a lefty as much as I did, that feature alone makes my job easier as a teaching pro.

So after what seemed to be an impossible search I thank David Hill for helping me to find a product that works great and is only 1/10th of the price of the verison of Dartfish I would have needed to do similar things. Thanks again for all of the help.

Excellent outcome! Now I need a lesson in Motion Pro--actually, Dave has been bringing me along slowly as my abilities allow...more later.
