Pretty far out
Not many of us get to serve from there.
And yes, about spring of 2011 I was working on that idea of maximizing the "window" with how far forward you tossed the ball and got the former chairman of the Harvey Mudd math department/Hall of Fame tennis coach, Hank Krieger involved in doing the mathematical analysis. But then my mom died and I got sidetracked and never got back to it.
I seem to remember pictures of Sampras, who is more than a half-foot shorter than Isner, being even further in front. There was even an interesting pic of Hoad with his one foot still on the ground being pretty far out into the court.
I'll be curious to see JY's answer to Jim's question.
