Modest Rod..
Interesting Rod's take on things. How back then players were more or less oblivious to what a slam meant, or would come to mean years down the line.
I only really count slams as a valid benchmark from around the mid-eighties. Back then, Laver might have won less had Gonzales been eligible to play and prowling around. Borg and his crew hardly ever played the Aussie Open either. Borg said it just didn't matter much back then, so he never gave it a thought.
Amazing Lavers head-to-head figures, aren't they? All the pro's playing each other countless of times over.
Is Laver modest enough?! I guess when you've been that good there is no need gloat or brag about anything.
If I had a time machine, I'd be popping back and forth to those 1950's and 60's. I'd just love to witness the whole thing first hand.Stotty
