      Two things...

On one point Olmedo follows his serve to the net and at the same time Laver is following his return of serve to the net...Olmedo lobs off the volley to send Laver scurrying back to play a defensive lob, which Olmedo plays a drop shot overhead off of for a winner. Nastase played a similar shot against Smith in Phil's clip. A drop shot overhead? So brilliantly clever.

Secondly, you have to love it when the guy finishes the match with a volley that catches Laver flush on the ass to end it...and they embrace at the net to congratulate one another.

I can't imagine how much fun that would be to have a story like that to tell your grandchildren...if you were sitting around the table down in Peru...somewhere.

NIce post. Laver would be gunned down today, even if he came in a lot. The game's ante has gone up so high, it's almost impossible to play old school s/v. I wonder what Joker did to raise his game so high up? He looks like he's lost a lot of weight, and is in better shape than everyone else. What did the doc give him?

Mardy Fish made a similar drop in wt. and won a lot of matches as well.
