  • Glide and Float

Some forum members may or may not have an interest in this type of thing...Phil and Don spring to mind and I post this mainly for them.. but comments from others are welcome.

I found this series of four clips of the 1976 Wimbledon final between Borg and Nastase. Both players move exceptionally well. Borg is probably quicker than Nastase. But Nastase moves so beautifully....he glides, floats, and camps himself perfectly at the net every time. If anyone can find a player that moves as beautifully as Nasty, let me know, I'd love to see it...even Fed isn't as silky as Nasty.

Go retro on me anytime, Phil.

Pancho was a great athletic mover, I feel, but not a quite a floater in the same way as Nasty. Apparently Sedgman was a floater, but I've never seen any prolonged enough clips to be able to make a judgement.

Yes, I've seen a few short clips like this. Never enough to see much. But like Nastase, Sedgman darts quickly - a very handy quality at the net. It's an unusual quality these days, darting, as players seldom approach the net.
