As someone who has followed John since the Tennisone days; I can 100% say that this is a huge mistake by the USPTA. As someone who's been a USPTA member for 12 years, and who has written articles for tennisplayer.net. Hopefully the USPTA will offer this site as part of it's benefits package in 2012. I have to seriously consider dropping my USPTA membership as it's provided no other real benefit to me up to this point. The majority of what I've ever learned about tennis has come through visual learning and the internet.

I'll have to say honestly that the arrangement was not really a plus for us in cash flow terms, compared to the paid uspta guys we already had. But I think it was worth it in terms of exposing the site to the most passionate tennis guys in the world, and frankly, for the satisfaction of having the chance to interact with so many of them.

Tennis resources looks pretty, but in the end, I would have to say,"Where's the beef?" They are a junior hamburger at Wendy's, whereas this site is a lavish, thick, juicy cheeseburger.

The one thing the site appears to have that this site doesn't is a ton of drills--maybe USPTA thinks this element appeals more to their members.

Yeah could be--or is that drills are just easier to package or both? We eventually will get around to doing a drill section--but not an indiscrimate number. Just some of the really effective ones on all aspects of the game.

Julian, for once I think people in this forum would like to hear your views. I predict this will not occur.

I will have no problem paying for my own membership to TennisPlayer.net. That said, a discount will be greatly appreciated.

I have long believed that the only real benefit that my USPTA membership has brought me is the TennisPlayer.net membership. In the past, whenever the thought of dropping my USPTA membership has entered my mind I've always gone instantly the TennisPlayer.net membership. "No. Sure the USPTA hasn't done jack for me, but there is TennisPlayer.net"

I will still keep my USPTA for at lest another year. They will however be getting an e-mail from me tonight and a call in the morning. They DO NOT even offer TennisResources.com for free. They want another $40 out of me a year. Nothing doing.

John, I want you to know that most of the advanced technical information I have learned has come from TennisPlayer.net. Your site has helped me to become a better instructor. Thank you.

                      Shaun,

Thanks for the good words. They have some tough budget decisions down there in Houston and we may not agree with all of them, but I still have good political relationships that can help us in the long run. Honestly, I was giving them a deal that was really disadvantageous to me, at least financially, so I can't say I am wildly upset about the decision.

                        grounstrokes footwork

[QUOTE=uspta990770809;12058]That's really disappointing. Not because I will have to pay a subscription fee, but because I won't be able to say to other USPTA members, "Hey, check this out. It doesn't cost you anything as a USPTA member." They are making a big mistake. Tennis Resources is a nice source of information...for anyone that doesn't want to think at all. Simple drills, some of which are very good, but most of which is not thought out and backed up with the video evidence the way the technical stuff is here on Tennisplayer.

Plenty of us will continue to support the site. There's too much good stuff.

A video of Friedman of TennisResources is to some extent useful on grounstrokes footwork.
He starts with a left foot on a forehand site.
I teach 2 start with a right right.
I may start a separate thread on this subject

Perhaps you should. I haven't seen the TennisResources clip. If you are starting to the right with your left foot, you have been caught flat-footed and wasted your split step and now need a drop step to get you started. The whole idea of coming out of the split or float step correctly is right to the right and left to the left.
