The forward lean Andy gets from that stance seems greater than most other players achieve. The angle of his lower legs is about 30 degrees making his leg drive angular into the court. His two footed launch and steep angle drive him into the court at higher speed. His left shoulder, just to pick one body part, is WAY into the court.

Roddick's Serve

Something just occured to me looking at video of Roddick's serve, and I'll just throw it out there. One of the principle challenges in teaching the serve, is getting students to move the center of mass forward in the wind up. Andy seems to accomplish this by sliding the front foot backwards, which causes him to move forward. Similar in the way the gravity step works on groundstroke movement. Pull the foot closest to the ball under the hips, to force the center of mass to move in the desired direction. Could be totally wrong about this though. Any thoughts?Last edited by 10splayer; 08-30-2010, 04:33 AM.
