Roddick Beats Nadal in Miami

Great match! Roddick played such great tennis! Served great. Esp. late in the match, serving wide in the deuce court and coming in when Rafa didn't have an offensive play on the ball.

Hit solid and deep until his chances ame to flatten it out and change directions. Rolled in many high, deep cross-court forehands to Rafa's backhand, drawing weak-ish replies. Held his own in the cross-court rallies from his backhand to Rafa's forehand.

Took big swings and flattened out returns on Rafa's 2nd serve.

Move great, played great defense and climbed back from behind, to neutral, to aggressive inside many rallies.

I've never been a huge Roddick fan, but he played such smart tennis that I liked him, and watching him play, a whole bunch today. Congrats on some really smart tennis to Roddick!

hey there.. i did not get to see that match.. but i will later.. that's what i heard.. he played very smart hit lots of flatter shots... that's what you need for those high shots.. if you play top spin against nadal from baseline.. forget it.. no body can outlast him from baseline with top spin contest...

people nowadays.. i mean especialy teaching world just thinking too much of hitting top spin.,. i mean i feel point where it is out of control.. kids start with huge loop and western grip from day ONE ... oh boy... and i am sure people read Rick Macci's article.. it took many hours on court for roddick to be able to hit through the ball with heavy western grip.....

but well, done roddick.. you have both great top spin and great flat shots and great serve.... then you can beat anybody... well, done match.. and nice post
