Go to the Stroke Archive page from the side menu bar. Scroll to the bottom then click on the High Speed Video Archive. I then get taken to a blank page that says this:

The requested URL /members/high_speed_archive/high_speed_archive.html was not found on this server.

So Stotty Bobby. If you click off the nav bar it should work. But likely you are clicking there from another link and that is going to the bad link. Can you tell me exactly what link you went there from??

Truly strange. Anyone else? Having Manish look into it. Kyle and I can both get in on all three browsers...Last edited by johnyandell; 02-26-2018, 09:52 AM.

Like all movements in tennis it can be natural or it can be learned. Hard to see so many players may not naturally absorb it.

On the tennis serve, do you feel that the internal rotation of the shoulder is a "natural" or "learned" movement? Some "experts" feel it will occur naturally if the kinetic chain is done properly leading up to the shoulder movement. If it's a natural movement, why do so many of the top pro's do it incorrectly? Your thoughts, please.

History will tell what role the swinging volley ends up having.

Jim,
Great find! The swing looks like a backhand groundstroke--the racket doesn't know if the ball bounced...
Originally posted by jimlosaltos View PostHey, John, since you're written here about the emergence of the swinging volley on the ATP, highlighting Fed's, I thought I'd ask what your thoughts are about backhand, swinging volleys -- even from one-handers ! Here, if I can figure out the new embed stuff, are links to short videos of Grigor Dimitrov at the ATP World Cup executing one from deep, and a frame cap from that video. To my amateur eye Grigor's one-handed backhand, swinging volley looks unlike what I've seen. Hmm, embed codes don't seem to work the way they used to, I'll have to figure that out later, so meanwhile here are some links that I hope will work, and perhaps the content will be of interest to your readers.

Great stuff, Jim. And yes it is of interest to forum readers. The shot is highly unusual. Very, very rarely will a player do that from so far back off his backhand wing. He struck the ball at just the right height and hit it exquisitely with his weight moving forward. I am not a fan of the swing volley but in that circumstance it was ideal. He seized the moment, a conventional volley would never have delivered that kind of penetration, it has to be a swing volley. Dimitrov hit it to perfection. The kid's talented.
