  • On The Rise

A lot of coaches teach hitting the ball on the rise... What % of balls are hit on the rise during a match? Let's take the top 15 players, at Grand Slams, men and women. Thanks and be well.

Funny you should mention that. We have articles from both Chris Lewit and Jason Frausto in the works that address some of these issues.

I would like to know more about this as well.

Especially how hitting on the rise might have different implications at the club level vs. at the pro level.

At the 4.0 and 4.5 levels, guys don't always hit the ball hard and deep enough to warrant taking it on the rise. As a result, if I force myself to take it on the rise, I end up in no-mans land or being forced to approach on shots where I'm not really ready to hit a forcing approach shot. It seems easier to stay back and take those balls just after the apex of the bounce instead.
