Davis Cup venues announced-Associated Press
LONDON -- Croatia will host the United States on clay at the Zatika Sports Hall in Porec in the Davis Cup quarterfinals, the International Tennis Federation said Monday.
Israel will play Russia at the Nokia Stadium in Tel Aviv, after the local federation decided to choose a larger venue than the Canada Stadium in Ramat Hasharon for the team's second-ever quarterfinal appearance.
The Israelis, who also reached the quarterfinals in 1987, upset Sweden 3-2 in the first round. The best-of-five series was played behind closed doors in Malmo because local authorities said they couldn't guarantee security at the venue.
The Davis Cup Committee fined the Swedish tennis federation $25,000 last week and the city of Malmo was banned from hosting Davis Cup matches for five years.
Defending champion Spain will host Germany on clay at the Plaza de Toros in Marbella, while the Czech Republic will host Argentina on an indoor hard court at the Cez Arena in Ostrava.
The quarterfinals will be played July 10-12.
