What an unbelievable video. Just beautiful. Who sings that song? It works perfectly with the footage. Song seems to be about nostalgia, but it's sung with such happiness. Kind of like how Federer's game makes the old greats like Laver, McEnroe, and Becker nostalgic and happy.

Thank you. Because of this thread, I invested the time in the music video section. The Federer film's the coolest. As my three year old would say, "it's beautiful song, Daddy." I remember the less beautiful cover version by the Ramones.
I'm sure that took a lot of time, John, but you've got to do more.
Crosstown Traffic (Hendrix) with Johnny Mac. Bad (U2).
Boris with the William Tell Overture or possibly some Mars the Destroyer or Ride of the Valkyries.
A Federer/Sampras montage with Misty Mountain Hop (Zep) or Soul Survivor by the Stones. Possibly Massive Attack, too. There is a light that never goes out or How soon is now? (The Smiths).
Hurricane (Dylan) with Vilas or Korda.
Nastase: Let it be..Revolution, Across the Universe.
Laver/Rosewall: Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.

best teacher
John, I first saw music tennis videos on Brad Langevaad site. I absolutely loved it then and I still do. Forget the analysis and lessons! Watching the videos, especially when their done well (as you have done) is the best way to learn the game for me. They're inspiring and beautiful and entertaining. I would seriously subscribe to a tennis web site with just music videos! Keep 'em coming! Many thanks Jim

Man, thanks for asking for suggestions. I just threw those out for the hell of it. This is almost as much fun as picking a 'mixtape' for drills.
Okay, Roddick and Sharapova -
I know nothing too obscure here. These lyrics and most certainly these beats and melodies fit:
Eric B. and Rakim's Paid in Full, with one of the richest bass lines in hip hop for Sharapova. American Girl by Tom Petty.
Roddick is up for basically anything by Blink 182 and the like. I read he liked Maroon 5 a lot.
Everlong by Foo Fighters for just about any big hitter, or something upbeat by Ben Folds Five.
As for what you've got coming up, I can't wait. Like driscojf said, you do them very well, and it's my favorite way to learn.
You've got me speculating.

Like a lot of you, that's also my favorite off-court way to learn. On rainy days, I like to study the advanced tennis research project videos with music in the background, but that doesn't hold a candle to the way Yandell edits and times everything.
Well, John, I know you're a passionate and knowledgeable music guy, and you're more than capable of finding the right tunes for any subject (My Back Pages was an inspired choice for Federer). But, I couldn't resist sharing just a little.
For a player you love watching:
Have you heard the piano music of this guy George Winston? Instrumental, just piano. Perfectly sticks to the form, then improvs. Genius. Diverse enough for athletic accompaniment by the best of the best.
For most other players (making them more enjoyable):
Middle period Radiohead (esp. from The Bends or OK Computer). Maybe something downbeat by Smashing Pumpkins, U2, Nirvana or Ben Harper. The list goes on...
For Roddick:
'The Changing Man' by Paul Weller, formerly of The Jam. Interesting tempo change at the end. Hopefully, Andy will continue his progress toward an all-court game.
For Sharapova:
Still laughing about both of JoeTennis' ideas. I also like 'I Wanna Be Adored' by Stone Roses.
For Nadal:
The Stones, 'Can you hear me knockin'?'
Looking forward to more in this section.

Guys,
Think I'll have to do some music research and intense listening to catch up to you two--George Winston though--now that's a sleeper choice.
I just may have to keep you guessing--we'll see...

Love this video
Have to say that the Federer video is my favourite thing on this site. As driscojk said - inspiring beautiful and entertaining.
i've even taken to playing the melody in my head during play for inspiration and to help me relax.
watching and studying the stroke archives seems very dry in comparison to watching this and when it goes to slow mo and repeats i think it is very educational. Great for mental imagery. Excellent on the serve as well. Think i may try and imitate it with the support of the stroke archives because when i think of the tune i can visualise it extremely well.
More of this kind of stuff please.
