Federer's Still Head and Disguise

I think a point that is missed in the great article on the Federer forehand that Federer's lack of head movement is one of his thousand ways to disguise shots. Moving one's head can definitely cue an opponent in on where the shot is going. By not moving the head, you get the advantage of some deception.

I also think that one of the biggest reasons for why people misconceive Federer's grip is that because of his mis-hits, the racquet head twists and the grip twists in Federer's hand. So often times, tennis enthusiasts will go to Google images or Getty images and see a picture where Fed's racquet face is closed and his hand is actually close to having a western grip. However, they do not realize this was not the starting grip but was a product of torsion from a mis-hit.

If you watch carefully I think you will see Federers rear upper torso/hip/upper leg drive his initial forward swing; it creates rotation and extension - & automatically causes that head move! Try it...
