Full speed is too difficult to analyse

I went back to the vedio and im actually 2-3 inches into the air, but do to the angle it appears like im on the line.
But backing up a few inches would'nt hurt just to be sure.
Unfortunetly i dont have quick pro , all i have is a digital camera and windows movie maker.
Thoes two serves are the same, i can make one in super slow motion. Here

You are doing some great things on your serve. Clearly you are hitting a second serve, correct? The way you pronate from contact on looks off to me - the motion should be different, but you have a tremendous foundation there with the racket drop, the shoulder rotation, great toss, etc.
Are you trying to hit a kick serve or topspin serve there?

Thats actually a first serve, in the second picture.
Thats a top spin 1st serve, You can tell by the way the racket comes through the ball.
I hit the ball with a slightly closed racket face, which allows me to hit with sugnificant spin. see contact points.
But the power antually comes from that funny pronation.
When i come through the ball like you see there in the second clip. I am making contact over my head or a little farther to my left with a slightly closed face.
So i pronate straight trough the ball for the power. Down the t.
If i pronate less i hit a big twist, do to the contact point, and closed racket face.
And if i pronate slightly later i hit a slice serve out wide.
So thats why it looks wierd, i think.
I really dont hit a flat serve, ive found that it a whole lot more effective to hit with good pace with good spin, than to kill it , and miss by a foot.

Im sorry Jeff, i dont have a clue what serve that is, i thought i did, but i can only tell from the ball hight over the net, from the back view.
1st serve real time Both serves are the same
1st serve slow motion
1st serve super slo mo of arm action
Second serve Real time Both serves are the same
Second serve slow motion
super slo mo of arm action 2nd serve
I dont have a clue what the difference is with any of them???????
But i read that article , on how to keep the ball toss in the same spot, and just change the spot you hit the ball, along with different rist action.
Ive only been practicing doing it for 2-3 hours but man does it work.
I can serve out wide, hit a big twist, hit a topspin 1 serve down the t , all with the same ball toss, and the same motion. I can even flaten it out, if i pronate real early.
Ive all ways had a really good serve, but that was do to my accurcey, quick motion and really low ball toss.
But i altered my tosses so it could be easly read. Unfortinutley.
But that article way amazing!!Last edited by stickman; 05-06-2008, 07:13 AM.

Racket drop looks pretty good, plus I think you could get more out of the racket drop with more leg drive out of the bottom. I feel they are pretty closely related. Those aspects of the serve look pretty good to me and I love the importance you place on spin that helps bring the ball down into the court.
One thing that jumped out at me is that the non serving arm is dead and not helping you in the vids. You can bring it down strongly (at the elbow) to start the upward rocking motion of other shoulder and this should increase your racket speed significantly combined with the delayed elbow extension and your solid racket drop.
Thats one thing we can't see is where the elbow extension starts. ( at least I didn't)

Yea it does look like its going long! But my serve dips a ton right at the end, so im almost sertan its came back in.
I have 2 clips, The slo mo shows the ball better, i think, but the real time does a good job two.
Real time,
Slow motion,
Unfortunitly the you tube is a little blurry... But my move maker is really clear and it drops in, i believe, its alittle hard to tell my serve travels farily high a little longe than most.

Iv'e honestly never even thought anything of my elbow.
The only article iv'e ever read on serving was the one about hitting all 3 serves off the same ball toss.
And that was 2 weeks ago.
Everything i do one my serve, i just kinda arived there with trial and error.Last edited by stickman; 05-08-2008, 05:58 AM.
