It says something, not sure what, that Bad Boy Ille Nastasse has a "Group" named after him in the ATP Tour Finals <g>.

Forgive the crassness but the line delivered by John Huston's character Noah Cross in Chinatown comes to mind: Noah Cross : Of course I'm respectable. I'm old! Politicians, ugly buildings and whores all get respectable if they last long enough.

Taylor Fritz avenges his loss to Daniil Mecvedev in their only prior meeting, straight sets.

Seems that with his serve diminished by physical problems, Medy is very good, but not quite Peak Medy great any longer.

I think the Wall of Med is never going to be what is was. He has technique deficiencies that are hard to overcome. He is a supreme mover, but that is already not as good as it once was, and the bottom line is that style of tennis is exhausting physically and mentally, probably even more of an issue.

Sinner made reasonable easy work of Minaur. He had to work a bit here and there but he just serves better than Minaur and it makes his job that bit easier.

Very true. Add to that Carlos and Sinner can expose Meddy's game style more than other players in the past, especially Carlos, who Meddy has no answer to.

Sinner served great! Against a very good returner in Demon won 81% first serves and 76% of second servers.
Put differently, Sinner won a higher percent of his 2nd serve points than Demon did on his own 1st serve points ( or over 2x second vs second).
                Ouch!

P.S. I'm surprised no one mentioned Medy's meltdown after Fritz won a key point on a frame shot.

I saw the meltdown, which at this point is not surprising. Med I think realizes he had no answers to things at the very top of the game. The match vs Fritz a perfect example. Fritz, a medium top 10 player, has a better serve and a better forehand, backhands about equal. Neither player very good at that level with volleys and hand skills. Med a better mover, his only edge. That is a tough ask match in match out.

Ruud gets first top 3 win, beating Alcaraz, who was fighting a cold.

                    ATP:

“It can be a bit tricky,” said Ruud, when asked about playing when an opponent is not at 100 per cent. “I knew he was dealing with a bit of a cold. I saw him sniffling in the back area and with a tissue for his nose, so that’s a sign that maybe physically he won’t be necessarily at 100 per cent. Of course, that is sad, and not good for him, but at the same time it is part of the game.

A comprehensive win for Meddy over de Minaur. He served well and played so well behind his first serve. He was moving well and made himself really difficult to beat. It's the best I have seen him play in recent times.

Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz meet at 11:30 AM ( I presume that is PST) in a rematch of their US Open final,.

Could be interesting. Fritz is serving well and this court seem to suit his game. On the other hand ... it suits Jannik, too. H2H 2-1 for the Carrotta!

Jannick a huge favorite with an implied probability of winning at 85%. Obviously it is on his racquet.

They're underway and Fritz's approach is apparently "Bombs Away", hit 140 MPH and averaging 131 MPH on first serves through 3 games.
                            Even 3-3 / 25 points each.

Quite the 1st set, just great ball striking by both.
