Gio Perricard is having a resurgence after a flat summer/ US hard court swing.
Into the finals tomorrow in Basel vs Ben Shelton ( Fans in the front rows should wear hockey masks ! )
Gio hit 17 aces in only 11 games vs Holger Rune, a good returner, in today's semis.
Yesterday, Gio hit 27 aces in only 17 games (3 sets) vs Shapovalov.
It's like being spotted 15 to 30 love before a ball is struck
Gio averaged -- averaged -- 123 MPH on his second serve, to go with 136 MPH ave first/ 146 MPH max vs Rune.
That's actually slower than what Gio did yesterday: 149 / 135 ave/ 127 ave vs Shapo.
Here is the ATP "Court Vision" map of Gio's 27 aces vs Shapo - note how they're all tight to, if not on the lines, at 135 MPH.

Tennis TV showed a "Serve Quality Insights" stat for 2024 season. Perricard was number 1 at a 9.5. Raonic was number 2 at 9.1. Perricard looks to me even more likely than Fils for the long awaited(by the French) Grand Slam breakthrough. He does everything well, even good volleys.

GMP wins the tournament, unbroken serve for the entire 500 Tournament. He is my pick as the next one hander to win a Major. It will be very interesting to see how he does next week Paris 1000.

Also, the variance between the ATP's two, different stroke rating systems is larger than I would have guessed.

That's 2 aces per game. Imagine starting your matches at 30-love every time. Heck, I could win! Lest you think the numbers are skewed by Big Ben's less than stellar return game, Gio did about the same in the semifinals yesterday, hitting 17 aces in only 11 games vs Holger Rune, a good returner. And Gio hit 27 aces in only 17 games (3 sets) vs Shapovalov in the quarters.
He's got velocity, with line-licking accuracy. Tough combo. For the three days Gio's serve hit a max of 149 MPH today ( 140s in all 3 matches), averaged 137 MPH today, and far more impressive, to me at least, Gio averaged 132 MPH on his second serve today -- second serve!
It's also a positive sign that all his serve velocity numbers went up half a smidge in the final vs the prior two matches.
And he's not red-lining, he's wielding a laser. Look at the placement of his 27 aces vs Shapo {the graphic I posed a few comments back}. Every one is within a foot of a line, and eight (8) on the service or sideline, by my completely unofficial count. Plus, Gio is not an Isner/O'Pelka 'serve bot', he's got some foot speed, if not agility, bone crunches the ball off both sides with a very truncated swing, can serve and volley, and hits some block returns from well within the baseline.
Gonna' be interesting.
As you wrote, let's see if he can carry this over to Paris/Bercy's indoor hard courts. Sidebar: Sinner and Alcaraz are the top seeds. It appears that Djokovic opted out of Paris and, per Coco V. on Tennis Channel, Djoko is out of the ATP World Tour Finals in Turin as well, ending his season early.
