    And they're off ...

Upcoming matches of note: Nadal-Alcaraz play their first doubles match.

    Scores this AM

Fritz over Bublick 4 and 4
Djokovic over Ebden with a bagel and a breadstick ( or is a beignet and a long bread?)

Iga held " bagel-less at Roland Garros" by Begu 2 and 5

Paolini makes shift from grass over Bogdan

Upset: Local Carolina Garcia out to Cristian in 3 sets. That must smart.

Late match: Osaka vs Kerber (the German in perhaps her last event or even last match?)

UPDATE: Kerber beats Naomi 5 and 3. I admit to modest surprise.

Alcaraz and Medy through in straights.

I don't think I could jump that high let alone have a perfectly normal expression on my face while doing so.

Hah! He does make it look effortless. His upper body could be in a chair.

So Rafa gets through. It's likely we will be seeing the very last match of the BIG 3.

ESPN has a better page for tennis scores than the Olympics or NBC, men at this link, with pull down menu for other splits.

Olympic set up leading to some odd match up. Djokovic complained about his own cupcake draw and said rules should be changed after his first round opponent was a man that had not played singles in over two years.

An odd reversal of that is US' Chris Eubanks losing to a German doubles specialist , Benjamin Hassan, playing under the flag of Lebanon, that has only won 2 singles matches in the last two years,

Men through today: Rafa in 3 (next up Djokovic), FAA, Musetti, Tsitsipas, Ruud. Zverev not yet on court.

Women: Zheng Qinwen bakes a double bagel, Sakkari through, Wimby champ Krejcikova needed three. Danielle Collins through via retirement, Pegula.

Andy Murray continues to play another day.

"This will feel like another Olympic medal for Andy Murray" says Jason Goodall on Peacock as he and Dan Evans come back from quintuple match point down (9-4 in match tiebreaker) and win the last seven points of the match to win 11-9 in match tiebreaker. Murray's career lives on!

I heard that Peacock didn't get this match streaming until the tiebreak. Sigh.

It is hard to believe a network could be as terrible at covering tennis as Peacock is. Often times, they just cut away from a live match, right in the middle of a game, for random advertisements, unbelievable. Mary Carillo in the booth is just icing on the cake so to speak. No words.

Cerundolo and Musetti played a very long high quality 3 set match yesterday in the Finals of ATP 250 Umag, won by Cerundolo. Both won their 1st round matches in less than 24 hours later in Paris. They both certainly look like top 8 clay courters in the world. Interestingly, Cerundolo plays with a 95 square inch racket that has been around since 1993 or so. So much for racquet technology.

For people struggling to watch the Murray-Evans match vs another truly golden oldie Kei Nishikori with Taro Daniel, you might try this link on the NBC site. or try this higher level link and scroll down to it. You need a "TV provider" for either.

Nadal vs Novak 2nd round today. Novak is the strong favorite with an implied probability of winning at 83 +%.

A real beatdown going on here. Cold blooded Novak appears to be ridding himself of some demons, his real or perceived feelings of not ever getting the love and respect from fans that Nadal and Fed received.

Novak was up 6-1, 4-0, now it is 6-1, 4-3. Nadal and the CROWD has hope.

Rafa taking an age to serve here at 4-4. I counted over a minute a couple of times.

Copy that. The favoritism is a bit hard to stomach.
