    Nadal Skipping Wimbledon for Olympics

Will team with Alcaraz in Olympic doubles, where he already has one gold medal to go with a gold in singles.

Rafa on Social Media: "During my post match press conference at Roland Garros I was asked about my summer calendar and since then I have been practicing on clay. It was announced yesterday that I will play at the summer Olympics in Paris, my last Olympics.

"ith this goal, we believe that the best for my body is not to change surface and keep playing on clay until then. It’s for this reason that I will miss playing at the Championships this year at Wimbledon. I am saddened not to be able to live this year the great atmosphere of that amazing event that will always be in my heart, and be with all the British fans that always gave me great support. I will miss you all.

"In order to prepare for the Olympic Games, I will play the tournament in Bastad, Sweden. A tournament that I played earlier in my career and where I had a great time both on and off the court. Looking forward to seeing you all there. Thank you

To show the decisions players who have been out with injuries have to make Paula Badosa would have been on the Spanish Olympic team, but after months of back injury, she has only two protected rankings to use, so Paula will skip the Olympics and use her PRs for Wimbledon and the US Open.

Withdrawals continue, with players echoing Rafa in saying the switch from clay to grass and back to clay is difficult. {Although Rafa stuck with the Olympics on clay rather than dumping it for Wimbledon} Some specifically cited the risk of injury by training for one then the other.

I wonder if this refers in part to the different movement. Trying to slide on the chewed up Wimby courts might wreck and ankle or two?

      Sabalenka, Jabeur, Badosa, Radukanu ...

Let's hope tennis players are smarter than some others -- a French swimmer just wrecked his shoulder celebrating his qualification.
        Can't make this stuff up

Add more Americans ... Madison Keys, Ben Shelton, Sebastian Korda and Frances Tiafoe *all* opted NOT to play the Olympics in Paris despite being US top 4 players.

          Giron, Eubanks, Navarro in.
