  • ATP Top 10 Going into Clay

The clay swing might see a juggling of the rankings. Djokovic had a great, clay court season last year. Conversely, he has a lot of points to defend -- as does Alcaraz -- while Sinner, who perhaps sacrificed last year's clay swing to revise his service point (which turned out to be a great investment) has negligible points. At the least Sinner can pad his lead over the field, and he has a shot to pass Djokovic for the top ranking.

Number of points to defend on clay (ATP):

    1. Djokovic - 2315 points
    2. Sinner - 585
    3. Alcaraz - 2265
    4. Medvedev - 1280
    5. Zverev - 1025
    6. Rublev - 1330
    7. Rune - 1835
    8. Ruud - 1935
    9. Dimitrov - 420
    10. Hurkacz - 235

Rankings as of Mon Apr 1

    1 Novak Djokovic 9,725
    2 Jannik Sinner 8,710
    3 Carlos Alcaraz 8,645
    4 Daniil Medvedev 7,165
    5 Alexander Zverev 26 5,415
    6 Andrey Rublev 4,890
    7 Holger Rune 3,795
    8 Casper Ruud 25 3,615
    9 Grigor Dimitrov 3,540
    10 Hubert Hurkacz 3,425

It will be very interesting. I really like the Masters 1000's Monte Carlo/Madrid/Italian Open lead up to the FO.

Yes. Djokovic has traditionally skipped Madrid, I believe, so he might do Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Rome.

Checking ATP site, Djoko lost early in Monte Carlo to Musetti!. I'd forgotten that. Then lost in the quarters of Rome to Rune.

So, conceivable but a stretch for Sinner to pass Djoko before Roland Garros. Say, Sinner wins Madrid and he's within 15 pts and just has to outdo Djoko in the next two. That would shake up the Roland Garros draw a bit.
