Nicolas Jarry takes out Carlos Alcaraz in the Rio semifinal on clay. Straight sets, tiebreak then one break.
Jarry was super aggressive, and held his nerve at the end going for it even after double faulting at break point.
Game plan was, I believe, the book on how to beat Alcaraz IF one can execute it. Basically, play Alcaraz as if he was Rafa: Serve wide and go wide to the deuce side to draw Alcaraz off the court, then flatten out to the ad corner and come in. Jarry is quietly one of the best servers on tour and never wavered, even if Alcaraz had a crowd-pleasing stunner for a winner, Jarry simply went back and said effectively "Can you do it again?"
6 ft 6 in Chilean already had wins over 3,4, 5th ranked players, now a world number two. As for Alcaraz, he continues in a (relative) slum since Wimbledon. Losing on clay before the Euro clay swing must be disheartening. Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero was back in his box. Didn't help,
