It will be interesting to see if Grigor Dimitrov has learned anything from his three set defeat at the hands of Mr. Pencil...aka Daniil Medvedev. Medvedev diagrammed him out of the match after dropping the first set. Now Medvedev has another issue to resolve and that is one of going the distance in Austria last week that culminated with a really tough three set loss to Sinner. Can he get his legs back under him for an opponent who might just smell a tad of blood. Medvedev leaking. Dimitrov has regained the form of some years back and has been showing up against any and all comers. Making a fight of it. I watched just a bit of his match against Mussetti. Really looks healthy.don_budge

Grigor is looking the best he has in years, back when he won the 2017 season ending Masters. Medvedev is in fine form, and this indoor hard surface seems to be his best surface. A very tough ask for Grigor to take him. I would think he would definitely need to come forward more than he usually does, and his backhand must be in top form no doubt. Grigor does have very good volley and hand skills obviously, just not quite as good as Fed's. And he has never been able to regularly take on the ball as early off either side as Fed, even though they appear to have such similar technique. Grigor taking out Musetti twice now in big matches, so close together, very impressive.Last edited by stroke; 10-31-2023, 02:34 AM.

Good workmanlike performance from Safiullin. Carlos was a long way off his best, making lots of unforced errors. I thought in that last game he might make Safiullin play a few extras balls and make him win it. Instead he went down somewhat tamely. Let's hope he can find better form for the finals in TurinStotty

No more. ATP stats on his Fearsome Forehand. 78 MPH ave with 3,084 RPMs gets my attention.

Quite the lineup today. This tournament has great crowd support.

Quite the tussle going on Grigor vs Med. Grigor won the first set with his easy on the eye game, Med was up in 2nd set, Grigor fought back to 5 all. At that point, Med manufactured a beef with the crowd and had a bit of a temper tantrum. The umpire handled it well eventually giving Med a time violation. Med continued to sulk even then, and Grigor, to his credit, calmly approached the net and said something to the effect to Med of come on, let's just get on with this. Med stopped completely and went right back to playing tennis. It goes to show what respect Grigor has out on the Tour among his fellow players.Last edited by stroke; 11-01-2023, 04:15 AM.
