Please check out this month's TPN Tour Portrait for photos of Medvedev from Indian Wells.
"The Octopus" ' flamboyant forehand and facial expressions make for interesting imagery. On the other hand, I almost didn't bring a long enough lens to catch him at the back wall? <g>. One shot here shows a young ball girl looking quizzically at Medy as he swings wildly next to the scoreboard corner. It's almost as if she's thinking, "What's he doing back here in my space?"
From a technique standpoint, it seems as if Medy simply has such tremendous hand-eye coordination he's like a jazz musician - never play the same sequence of notes twice. He'll hit a forehand on one point, with what some used to call "A WTA forehand", take takeback way back behind his head. Another starting with the contact face off of his racket pointing at the back wall on take back like the big topspinners. And everything in between.
Here's one on a rare venture to the net. He needed a ticket stub and two bus tokens to get to the net from his return position. No matter. He's fast enough to pull it off.
