Muller tried to attack the Federer backhand yesterday. He got some shanks, some points, but not a lot more. Muller was nowhere near good enoughto keep the ball on Federer's backhand.

Federer's Weakness

I think it is an issue, not least for the guys he plays; particularly as Federer plays more and more from the baseline. The variey that we all loved in his game is disappearing. From the baseline the backhand topspin shot is not what it might be. It is, as John Yandell points out, hit and miss. Watching Murray play Federer on Sunday I was struck by the number of times Federer overhit a forehand because, having run around his backhand, he was so far out of court that he had to hit a winner and then missed. I was also struck by the number of times that Murray got out of trouble just by hitting deep to Federer's backhand.
Ok so its not a huge issue. But given the state of the men's game looking for failings in Federer's game is about as interesting as it gets. And I don't think that we should assume that the number one's game is without weaknesses or failings.
